My Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Hi there welcome to my web site about my Rhinoplasty Septoplasty plastic surgery. This site contains pictures of my open rhinoplasty. The pictures do contain stitches , blood and puss. So I hope that isn't to gory or graphic for you but hey that is surgery! My surgery took place in September 2009 in Toronto Canada.

A little about me. I'm a East Indian male who has always been self conscious of his nose. I always though it was huge like a birds beak. Not only did have a lot of projection but it was very wide.

Adding insult to my self image I broke my nose running across the ice. Why I was running across the ice? I'm not sure lol. The resulting break added a nice crooked shape to my already over projected wide nose. I have always wanted a slimmer straight profile non droopy tip type of nose. I wanted a more Caucasian type nose I guess.

As you can see on the before image on the left my nose had a lot of projection and was mildly droopy. From a 3/4 angle view my nose actually hides the view of my eye. It's not really a big deal but when you see after images with the after. It's really nice to be able to see both eyes from an angle. I really felt my nose was the central focus point on my face.

When my nose was broken I couldn't really breath great through one nostril with the deviated septum. But this wasn't the only cause for poor breathing through my nose. I have awful allergies and congestion would block up a different nostril from time to time which never is helpful.

In 2009 I had saved up enough money and started looking for plastic surgeons. It's really difficult at that point to choose. There are so many plastic surgeons and most of them are very smooth talkers. They make you feel right at ease. I guess you can call them great salesmen / women. I met with about 4 plastic surgeons and they all seemed extremely nice. No one tried to upsell me no one gave me a feeling that they couldn't do the job. I guess Rhinoplasty is a very common surgery that most if not all plastic surgeons have experience in them.

So after meeting with one surgeon I felt he really knew what he was doing as he specialized in rhinoplasty. He explained what he could and couldn't do. One thing most of the plastic surgeons said they couldn't achieve is making my nose very narrow like a Caucasian nose. You can only do so much when you bone structure is so wide. That is how I understand it. Well after that consult I put down my $500 deposit and booked the surgery date. One thing that stuck in my head was the plastic surgeon said he wouldn't touch my tip. At the time I didn't think anything of it. Well after going home I started researching the net even more I saw many after pictures of people with bulbous tips. I then realized that this could possibly happen to me if he didn't work on my tip. So I cancelled the surgery and lost my $500. I spent another month looking for doctors and found one that was very highly regarded on the plastic surgery forums like makemeheal.com

Well I contacted that Surgeon and booked an appointment. He is a Rhinoplasty specialist. Basically all he does is Nose Jobs. No breast augmentation or lyposuction just noses. To my surprise and dismay and appointment for a consultation took a month. Which was like forever.

I met with him and we discussed what I wanted. Again a very nice person doctor. One of the things I liked about him was he worked out of a hospital which was very important to me. If anything goes wrong it really is great to be in a hospital setting with all the proper equipment and other doctors just incase of an emergency. Well I went home after the consultation and booked a surgery date. This time I was certain this doctor was the right plastic surgeon for my rhinoplasty. Again to my dismay he was booked for a very long time and the surgery would only take place 3 months later at the earliest. This is kind of hard to hear as these things you just want to get them over with. Waiting for that surgery date is such torture lol. I spent all my time looking at botched rhinoplasty surgery pictures , bad plastic surgey and reading other peoples stories. It really gets you worked up and scared lol.

For my surgery I never told anyone what I wanted or that I was going for it. My mom is very traditional and would freak out if she found out I was going for plastic surgery. So it was hush hush. This doctor wanted me to have a pre-op appointment. This appointment took place 1 week before the surgery at the hospital. What they wanted to do was to check you out if you were physically fit to go for surgery. Like any surgery there is a risk and Rhinoplasty there are risks as you are going under general anesthetic and they even use a trachea tube / breathing tube. Well the pre-op appointment was basically just a physical. They took blood , urine , check your blood pressure and asked a bunch of questions regarding your health. They told me I needed to have someone to come with me to the surgery but I didn't really have anyone. So I would have to figure that out.

Well I was in a situation that I had to find someone to come with me to the surgery. So I hired a nurse through craigslist! Cost about $160 and she drove me to the hospital and stayed with me all day then drove me home after surgery.

Surgery was a breeze. The anesthesiologist was funny. My favorite part was when I get the anesthesia lol. Anyway's I got home and no one was home so I hid out in my room for a couple days. Pretended like I was sick and just played on my xbox. I sounded like I had a cold so no one thought twice! You know what was strange is there was no real pain in my nose. I didn't feel any pain. I had to keep the cast on my nose for about a week then I met with the doctor for the follow up. The nurse removed my cast that day and it was really stuck on there! She pulled and yanked on it and I didn't feel any pain but I was sure nervous my nose would get pulled off lol. But it was pretty strong even in just one week. Well after she pulled it off she asked if I wanted to look. She passed me the mirror and well...it was just so big and swollen. She told me she had to tape it to help keep the swelling down. So she taped it up and you can see though images. She wanted to me to keep the tape on for about 3 more days.

So I went home sneaked up to my room and well just hung out for 3 more days. I then removed the tape. When my mom saw me she didn't even say anything. Actually a friend came by and didn't say anything. Even though half my nose was just cut off and it was really swollen. They asked me if I had a cold. Which I of course just said ya it's just a cold lol. I guess the swollen nose looked more like my original big nose lol. During the next month in the nighttime I continued to tape my nose to hopefully help keep the tip up and the swelling down. I don't know if that works. But I read it does lol.
